Empowering the Next Generation of Media Production: TriCaster Mini X Training at Han Chiang University College

Macking Domain recently conducted a full-day Vizrt TriCaster Mini X training programme for Han Chiang University College, providing its multimedia team with practical training on the operation and workflow of the TriCaster Mini X.
The training was designed not simply as a product demonstration, but as a hands-on operational session. The objective was to ensure that the university's key personnel could confidently return to using the system for day-to-day multimedia and live production activities.
The participants already had experience with an earlier-generation TriCaster Mini SDI, but had not been using the platform regularly since their unit malfunctioned during late 2025. The training therefore combined a refresher on fundamental TriCaster concepts with an introduction to the workflow and capabilities of the newer TriCaster Mini X.
Building Confidence Through Hands-On Training
Three key personnel responsible for Han Chiang University College's multimedia facility participated throughout the full-day programme.
During the second session, approximately five additional lecturers joined the training to familiarise themselves with the TriCaster environment, its interface and the basic production workflow.
Rather than focusing heavily on theory, the training was structured around the way operators would actually use the system in a production environment.
Using the university's own production facilities allowed participants to learn with the equipment, cameras, green screen environment and production setup they would encounter in their daily work.
From Refresher to Real-World Operation
The programme was divided into four training sessions, progressively taking participants through the essential areas required to operate the TriCaster Mini X.
Training covered system and interface familiarisation, production preparation, core TriCaster controls and workflow, media handling, live production operation and common operational scenarios.
Participants were also taken through basic troubleshooting techniques.
This was an important part of the programme. Knowing which button to press is only one part of operating a production system. Operators also need to understand what to check when something does not behave as expected.
The training therefore introduced practical approaches for identifying common problems and understanding where to begin troubleshooting before escalating an issue.

Learning in the Actual Production Environment
A major advantage of conducting the programme on-site was the opportunity to move between instruction and actual operation.
Participants could immediately apply what they had learned using the TriCaster Mini X alongside the university's existing cameras, production monitors, audio equipment and green-screen studio.
The sessions included familiarisation with the live production workspace, importing and managing media, working with graphics and production assets, preparing sources and understanding the workflow required to move from production setup to live output.
This hands-on approach helped reconnect the participants' previous TriCaster experience with the newer Mini X environment.

Preparing the Team for Independent Operation
The primary goal of the programme was straightforward: enable the university's key multimedia personnel to operate the TriCaster Mini X confidently at a fundamental level.
By the end of the programme, participants had worked through the essential production workflow from system familiarisation and preparation through to live operation and basic troubleshooting.
The full-day training was completed successfully without any technical issues during the programme.
More importantly, the session gave the team an opportunity to refresh their existing knowledge while developing greater familiarity with the newer TriCaster Mini X workflow.
